Abstract

While understanding the molecular basis of primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs) provides unique insights into immune system function, translational research is also needed to provide better care to affected individuals. Many academic institutions and departments have been established to provide training and encourage collaborative research on the immune system and related disorders. In Indonesia, one of the leading countries in PID in the Middle East region, major advances in basic and clinical immunology have been made over the past three decades. During this period, major improvements have revolutionized the management of PIDs in the country, from education and research aspects to diagnostic procedures and treatments available to Indonesian PID patients. In this review, we attempt to describe the current status of PIDs in Indonesia from various perspectives and speculate on possible future opportunities.
